The Story of Us
More than a carousel.
A Missoula tradition built with love by hand, heart and community. A Carousel for Missoula is one of the first fully hand-carved carousels built in the United States since the Great Depression. Every pony, dragon, chariot and detail tells a story of craftsmanship and community spirit. Our beloved “Ponykeepers” continue that tradition today – carving, painting, restoring and caring for the carousel by hand.
Because this story was never just about a carousel. It’s about a community that built something beautiful together. Let’s keep the ponies spinning!
Join us for a spin!
Located in the heart of downtown Missoula in Caras Park, the carousel has welcomed generations of kids – and kids at heart – for rides, celebrations, first dates, birthday parties, field trips and family traditions.
Open 7 days a week.
Current hours: 11am – 6pm
We are proudly non-profit – every ride token, donation and visit helps keep the ponies spinning and preserves this one-of-a-kind Missoula treasure for future generations.

About us
More than just a carousel.
In the late 1980s, a dream began to take shape in Missoula – not from a corporation or developer, but from neighbors, artists, woodcarvers and volunteers who believed our community deserved something magical. What started as one man’s inspiration grew into a citywide movement fueled by creativity, determination and thousands of volunteer hours.
